Welcome to Seattle!
Every day, we think about how lucky we are that we get to have our practice in Seattle, WA. Located near water and mountain ranges, Seattle has a rich history and many wonderful sights to take in. Let us take you on a tour of our wonderful community.
History of Seattle
There is evidence that Seattle has been inhabited for over 10,000 years, dating all the way back to the end of the glacial period, approximately 8,000 B.C. Seattle has experienced many events over time, one being the Great Seattle Fire in 1889. The destruction spanned over 29 blocks including much of the business district. Many of the buildings that burned were made of wood, resulting in the city being rebuilt with brick and stone buildings that are still seen today. The effects of the fire caused the city to boom, almost doubling the inhabitants due to the creation of construction jobs to rebuild the city.
That was just the beginning of the boom in the city, with the Klondike gold rush happening just a few years later. Seattle, with its many ports, became the destination for miners to quickly make their way to Alaska. Seattle also provided many of the supplies and materials needed for work in the Klondike. The immigration of people to the Seattle area during this time in hopes of making it rich started the neighborhoods that can still be seen in the city and surrounding areas.
Seattle remained popular, especially during WWII, as Boeing became the largest employer in the area. The various shipyards were also used to create extraordinary amounts of war vessels. Many Americans were relocating to Seattle during this time to take advantage of the booming job market.
Seattle continued to be a hub for companies for many years. Bill Gates and Paul Allen moved their small company to Seattle and grew it into what we know today as Microsoft. Starbucks, a chain that many of us know and love, also started its business here. Today, Amazon holds the prize for most employees in Seattle.
