Extreme Wear

When the surface of your teeth are worn down, your entire body can be affected. Severe wear of the teeth is usually a sign of some larger problem. Before we treat the aesthetics of the teeth, we must treat the cause of the wear so your reconstructions function properly for years to come.

    Signs of Dental Wear

The most obvious sign of dental wear is diminished tooth size. Other signs include:

    • Flattened chewing surfaces
    • Tenderness of the jaw muscles
Tooth sensitivity that may be the result of microscopic surface cracks
    • A bite that no longer meets correctly when closed
    • Headaches

    Causes of Dental Wear

Without identifying the cause of dental wear, we would be unable to prevent future wear of the dental reconstruction. Some causes include:

    • Teeth grinding and clenching
    • Biting hard objects such as fingernails or using the teeth as tools
    • Misaligned teeth
    • Parkinson’s or other diseases of the nervous system

If left untreated, worn down teeth become more susceptible to decay and, potentially, tooth loss. If you notice any of the signs mentions above, call Magnolia Dental care to schedule an appointment.
